Welcome to Beer and Such, the best dang craft beer review site I've ever written. We'll glaze over the part that this is the only beer review site I've ever written, and just enjoy the goodness. This is where I fumble about in the world of craft beers and then tell you all about my adventures.

Today I'll be taking a look at Zane Lost His Avocado Bag Brut IPA by Refined Fool Brewing Co in glorious Sarnia, Ontario. First and foremost, this is a heavy weight at 7.6%, so don't be fooled by the funny name and decorative can. It's a trap!

It smells really good. It's quite light in colour, clear, and lightly carbonated. So far, so good.

Now it's time for the real deal.

Well, that's...odd. It's not at all what I expected. Not at all. It's way closer to an average ale than it is to an IPA. There's slight hop notes at the front end, but after that it's all standard ale flavours. It has a nice clean finish.

Now, I want to point out that this beer tastes good if you happen to like beer. It's clean, it's crisp, it's an easy drinking brew. It's not what I was expecting, but it's still a good drink. I don't get the citrusy hop intro, or malty mid tones or bitter aftertastes that come standard with most IPAs.

It's disclaimer time: I am not a craft beer expert, so it's entirely possible that the word "brut" in the name of this beer could explain all the stuff I was just saying about not being what I expected. Maybe this is exactly what a brut IPA is supposed to taste like. I have no idea if that's the case, so if I'm just uninformed, please feel free to let me know.

As I said, this beer is tasty, hefty, and a dangerous fuel for a crazy night out if one was so inclined. Drink carefully, and leave the car wherever it happens to be when you get too deep.

There was this one summer night many moons ago where I got out of a parking ticket by being too drunk to drive. You see, we were drinking after the bars had closed out on the front lawn of my friend's house, and my car was in a spot that didn't allow over night parking. When the ticket guy showed up to write me a ticket, I tried to move my car. The would be ticketer was beside himself that I was going to drive drunk, so he swore he wouldn't give me a ticket as long as I didn't drive.

Sweet.

Now back to the beer at hand.

Drink this beer out of an IPA glass, based on the fact that this beer is an IPA.

My rating: 7/10. It's good, and I like it.

My wife is my second sipper and as opposite a fan if IPAs as possible. But...

My wife's rating: 5/10. That's a huge number from her on an IPA, my friends.
