Today's beer is the Starboard New England IPA brought to you by the fine folks are Lake of Bays Brewing Co in Baysville, Ontario. I don't know where that is, but if I'm ever there, I'll swing by the brewery for a visit.
This beer is unfiltered so it's cloudy, it's sporting a medium carbonation, and it smells like it's loaded with hops. It's 5.4% so it's not much stronger than an average Canadian brew, and therefore it's safe to drink in vast quantities. Just kidding, drink responsibly, people.
Now lets taste this beer already.
It's hoppy, it's crisp, and it's delicious. There's a blast of bright hops right off the bat, before it moves to the back of the throat, and then leaves a hefty bitter after taste that isn't unpleasant. It actually tastes like the best thing you can do is take another drink and refresh your mouth.
Is that weird? It feels weird...
Other than sitting around with some friends that also like hoppy and bitter beers, I can't really see this as a night out pounding beers sort of beer. It's a have one and then move on kind of beer for me. It's good and I like it, but I can't see having a lot of them.
My rating: 6.5/10
This beer is best served in an IPA glass (surprise) or a German-style Willi Becher to get the full experience.
My wife is my second sipper and she doesn't like hoppy beers at all. Like, at all.
My wife's rating: 1/10 (She gave it a 0/10, but thought that was mean.)
There you have it friends, my review of Starboard New England IPA by Lake of Bays Brewing Company on Baysville, Ontario is a hop heavy IPA and one of several beers available at lakeofbaysbrewing.ca
