Skull Rock Oatmeal Stout by Sleeping Giant Brewing Company

It's another black beer review! I love black beer so I'm pretty excited about this one: Skull Rock Oatmeal Stout made by the fine folks at Sleeping Giant Brewing Company in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

It's black with minimal carbonation, and it looks fantastic in the glass. There's something about the way stouts and porters take up the space in a glass. It's...complete and utter domination. At 5.1%, there's no threat of tanglefoot from this one.

Alright, let's get to it.

It's delicious. Wow. It's your classic malty flavour you'd expect from a stout, but then it sort of disappears. It's maybe even a little sweet during the malty start, but then it passes nicely through that rich almost coffee phase and then it's gone like a thief in the night. There's almost no after taste, compared to a Guinness for instance, but what there is left over is hinted at more than anything concrete.

I like this beer. I have been through Thunder Bay a few times in my travels, and the next time I'm up that way, I'll be stopping by the Sleeping Giant Brewing Company for a pint of goodness.

My rating: 9/10

My wife is my second sipper, and though she's not a beer drinker, she said she doesn't mind this one. That's high praise right there.

My wife's rating: 5/10
