Today's beer is called Life in the Clouds by Collective Arts Brewing in Hamilton, Ontario. It's a DDH IPA, which I just looked up and found out DDH means double dry hopped. You learn something new everyday.
This is a light, hazy beer with minimal carbonation, a fresh hoppy aroma, and 6.1% alcohol volume. It looks great, it smells great, and there's a dapper looking squirrel feeding pigeons on the can. What's not to like?
Now for the all important taste.
Wow, that's not what I was expecting at all. It starts out all hoppy, but it's a mellow citrus flavour that doesn't like to talk about itself. Then we move effortlessly to the bitterness I've come to expect from IPA's, but that bitterness has other things to do and it leaves almost immediately with very little aftertaste.
It's light, it's friendly, and it's really east to drink. I can imagine the sweet karaoke nights in the garage with some adventurous buddies and a wood burning stove. I like this one a lot.
Do yourselves a favour and get a set of IPA glasses to enjoy this beer. It's delicious in any glass or even out of the can (GASP!), but the optimal serving vessel is the IPA glass.
My rating: 10/10. It's good and I really recommend this one.
My lovely wife is my second sipper and, as I have mentioned in other posts, she is not a fan of IPA's that get carried away with their hops.
My wife's rating: 3.5/10. That's high praise from her!
