Welcome to Beers and Such, a craft beer review site by a guy that doesn't really know anything about craft beers, but dammit he'll try them all and tell you all about it. How can a guy know if he likes something without giving it a try?

Today we are going to take a look at Jamboree Sour w Strawberry and Guava by 2Crows out of Halifax, Nova Scotia. For anyone following along, you'll know that this beer was kindly sent to me from Halifax by my friend and most knowledgeable beer aficianado, Halifax Neil. This is the fourth and final brew in the best care package ever.
I'm going to put this out there right away; I've never tried a sour that I liked. That being said, both sours I tried were by accident as I didn't know 2 things when I bought them. Thing 1. I didn't know they were sours, so I wasn't expecting what I got. Thing 2. I had no idea sours were a thing.
Have you ever went to eat a chocolate chip cookie only to find some smart ass has ruined it with raisins? That's kind of my experience with sours thus far. Maybe this one will be different...
This beer is 4.8% so it will do the job nicely, its very active carbonation throws the big bits of sediment around like trailers in a Tennessee tornado. I can smell the Guava, and possibly feet...
Why not have a sip?
Ain't that some shit? The strawberry flavour comes through pretty clearly, and the guava that I could smell is a very distant second. There's a tiny hint of hops sort of between the middle and the finish, but it doesn't seem to occupy its own spot as the tastes roll around my mouth. There's an after taste that's...I'm not sure what to call it.
What really surprises me is the mouth feel. I've never consumes carbonated silk before, but I think this is what it would feel like. It's almost creamy, I guess, but the sweetness makes me hesitate to use that word. It's nothing like any other kind of beer I've tried so far.
So the million dollar question you are probably asking yourself is "Does he like this sour?" and the simple answer is no. No, I don't.
I'm about to put my ignorance on full display here folks. To me, this isn't beer. I know it is beer by definition and there's probably a million things I don't know about it that grant it beer status, but I just don't see how this beverage is considered beer. It's a unique animal all by itself, and if I had to guess, I would a brewer somewhere ran out of regular beer making stuff and threw some old fruit that was in the back of the fridge into the boil. I wasn't there at the time, but that's my guess.
My rating: 2/10. I like the name 2Crows, and that's where I got the 2 to give this beer.
My lovely but inconsistent wife is not awake at the moment, so she will not be rating this beer.
There you have it, friends. Jamboree by 2Crows is a strawberry and guava sour made in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I have been 0 for 3 with sours, and I'm about ready to declare myself a person that doesn't like sours. For those of you out there that like sours, give this one a go and let me know if it's a good example of its species. Check out what else the folks at 2Crows have been up to over at 2crowsbrewing.com
