Today I'll be taking a look at Doc Purdue's Boxing Bruin by the fine folks at Cowbell Brewing Company in the thriving metropolis of Blyth, Ontario. Don't know where Blyth, Ontario is? That makes two of us.

This beer is an IPA, so I expect a hoppy flavour with a bitter finish. In the glass, it's a nice amber colour with light carbonation. It's a hefty 6.3%, so over indulge at your own risk. I guess that's kind of true for anything alcoholic, but you get the idea.

Now for the important part.

Well well well. That's a good beer. It has the hops I expected; bright and easy going. That's followed by a nice citrusy flavour that moves smoothly into a mild bitter finish. Now I'm not one for an overly bitter aftertaste in my IPA's. I prefer a lighter touch in that department and this beer does exactly that.

I think this beer is a nicely balanced, and really easy to drink. That's how some folks would spell dangerous. A few too many of these bad boys and you never know if you'll wake up with your own pants on or if you'll be wearing a sarong and have a great story to tell. Depending on your disposition, either situation might be fine with you.

As is so often the case, I recommend this beer be (ir)responsibly consumed in an IPA glass. That makes sense, right? I think so.

My rating: 8/10.

My wife is my second sipper and I should mention that she is not at all a fan of IPA's. I can't think of one she's actually liked so far.

My wife's rating: 2/10
