Can of Beans Coffee Blonde by Refined Fool Brewing Co

I'm a sucker for all things coffee, so naturally I had to grab this Can of Beans Coffee Blonde by Refined Fool Brewing Co out of Sarnia, Ontario. How could I just leave it sitting on the shelf in my local LCBO? Obviously I couldn't or we wouldn't be here right now.

So for starters, it's a dark-ish blonde and there's almost no carbonation at all. I wasn't overly careful pouring this beer for the pic and it didn't even hint at foaming over. Next, you can smell the coffee beans. Now I have a little routine in the morning where I grind coffee beans and me and my 15 month old daughter smell the ground coffee together before I brew it. It makes my day. This beer smells like the ground coffee we smell in the morning.

It weighs in at 5.3%, and there's no fancy pants write up on the can telling you what you're supposed to taste. I like that. The beer will speak for itself.

Let's see what this beer has to say.

Hmm. I'm not sure what I'm tasting here. It hints at coffee, so I'm glad to say it's not like drinking a coffee mixed with a beer which would be gross. The beer flavour is light, and pretty smooth, but doesn't taste exactly like beer should taste. It's not bad by any means, it's just...hard to place. While there isn't much of an aftertaste to speak of, there does seem to be a film left in my mouth after taking a drink.

I'm really struggling with this one. Maybe I have the COVID, but there's just not a lot of flavour, and that makes the film a little unsettling. Could I forgive the film with a rich flavoured beer? Possibly? I can't really say for sure. See, the best way I can describe the film is to ask you to think about taking a drink of milk. That's what I'm getting here, not the flavour of milk, but the feel of milk.

It's so weird.

With all that being said, I don't hate this beer at all. It's super light and easy to drink. A little too easy to drink maybe. I would suggest exercising caution with this one if you plan on drinking several of them. I can see how they would be very deceiving and lead to some sweet Prince karaoke if you don't take the necessary precautions.

As for my usual glassware recommendation, I say stick with any standard pint glass. I don't know that there's any reason to get too fancy with this beer.

My rating:6/10. I don't hate it, but I don't love it either.

My second sipper has fallen asleep, so she won't be joining us tonight. My guess is she wouldn't like this beer and give it a low grade. And I do mean low. Like a 1, maybe.

There you have it, friends. Can of Beans Coffee Blonde by the Refined Fool Brewing Co in sunny Sarnia, Ontario is an enigmatic beer that will do the job, but you'll feel a strong urge to brush your teeth after a few sips. Check out Refined Fool Brewing Co's full line up at refinedfool.com
